Which WUKA Period Pants Should You Buy? Basics vs Stretch vs Ultimate (+ Styles & Sizing)

By Ashley Isham Updated October 13, 2026 · 9 min read · 13 views

Which WUKA period pants should I buy? For most people, the answer is WUKA Stretch™ Seamless in Heavy flow: one pair flexes across several sizes, holds 20ml+ (about 4 tampons’ worth) and costs £16.99. Choose Ultimate™ if you want the softest TENCEL™ Modal and a classic dress size, Basics™ if you love organic cotton and the lowest price, and add a Super Heavy pair (up to 60ml) for nights or your heaviest day.

WUKA makes period pants in three main ranges, five-plus styles and four absorbencies, so it is easy to stare at the menu and freeze. This guide turns it all into one decision: which range suits your body and budget, which style suits your wardrobe, how much absorbency you need, and how many pairs make a full cycle. Every price below was checked on wuka.co.uk on 4 October 2026.

At a glance

Best all-rounder: Stretch™ Seamless Midi Brief, Heavy (£16.99)

Most luxurious: Ultimate™ High Waist in TENCEL™ Modal (from £24.99)

Best for nights: Super Heavy, up to 60ml (Stretch £21.99, Ultimate £25.99)

Cheapest per pair: Basics™ Hipster 7 Full Switch Set, £25.17 for seven pairs (size L only on the day we checked)

Basics vs Stretch vs Ultimate: the quick answer

Stretch™ is the easiest choice because it fits across sizes; Ultimate™ is the softest and most premium; Basics™ is the simple organic cotton option. Here is how the three ranges compare:

Range Feel Sizing Absorbencies Price per pair
Stretch™ Seamless, super-stretch, no VPL Multi-size: XS-L, L-3XL, 3XL-5XL Light (thong), Medium, Heavy, Super Heavy £14.99 to £21.99

WUKA Stretch™: the best place to start

Stretch™ is the range to buy if you are new to period pants, between sizes, or your body changes through the month. WUKA calls Stretch™ Seamless the world’s first multi-size full brief period pants: one pair flexes across up to four sizes, so bloating days are just as comfortable as the rest.

The seamless finish means no visible pant line under leggings or work trousers, and the Heavy flow version holds 20ml+ for up to 12 hours. Stretch™ comes as a Midi Brief, High Waist, Boxer Short and Thong, and Super Heavy (up to 60ml) is available in the Midi Brief and High Waist. It is also the range WUKA recommends for postpartum recovery and changing body shapes.

WUKA Ultimate™: the most luxurious pair

Choose Ultimate™ if comfort is your top priority. These are made with TENCEL™ Modal, which WUKA describes as 3.5x softer than cotton, and they come in classic dress sizes from XXS up to 6XL in the High Waist and Midi Brief.

WUKA Ultimate High Waist period pants, heavy flow

The High Waist has up to 45% stretch at the waistband for a supportive, flattering fit, and the Super Heavy version has a built-in pad just 3mm thick that still holds up to 60ml. Ultimate™ also brings the widest choice of styles: Midi Brief, High Waist, Bikini, Lace Hipster and roomy Boxer Shorts with a longer leg that stops chafing.

WUKA Basics™: simple organic cotton for less

Basics™ is the budget-friendly range: a classic hipster with a high gusset, made with a GOTS-certified organic cotton outer and lining, from £11.99 a pair. Medium holds up to 15ml and Heavy holds 20ml+, both for up to 12 hours.

One thing to know: on the day we checked, Basics™ was only in stock in a few sizes (Medium in L, Heavy in XL). If you are a size L, the Basics™ Hipster Medium 7 Full Switch Set was £25.17 for seven pairs, down from £83.93, which works out at about £3.60 a pair. That is an incredible price for a full week’s set.

Which style should you choose?

Pick the style you already love in normal underwear; WUKA builds the same protection into every cut.

  • Midi brief: full back coverage without bulk. The safest all-day and overnight choice.
  • High waist: extra front and back coverage and a secure, body-hugging fit. Lovely on bloated days.
  • Hipster and bikini: a lower rise that sits nicely under jeans and low-rise skirts.
  • Thong: light flow, spotting and discharge, or backup with a menstrual cup, with no lines at all.
  • Boxer shorts: roomy and cosy for sleeping, long shifts and wearing under skirts and dresses.
  • Sports and cycling shorts: built-in pants for training, running and riding. The Period Sports Shorts even have two side pockets.

Which absorbency do you need?

Most people need Heavy for the first days and Medium or Light for the rest; add Super Heavy if you bleed through a super tampon quickly or want one pair for the whole night. WUKA’s own guide:

  • Light: 10-15ml, about 2-3 tampons. Spotting, discharge, the last day.
  • Medium: up to 15ml, about 3 tampons or 2 pads. Moderate days and everyday peace of mind.
  • Heavy: 20ml+, about 4 tampons or 3 pads. Heavy days and most nights.
  • Super Heavy: up to 60ml, about 12 tampons or 8 pads. The heaviest days, overnight and postpartum.

WUKA also suggests wearing a pair for up to 12 hours on light days and 4-6 hours on heavy days, or overnight. Trust your own flow: you know it best.

How many pairs of WUKA period pants do you need?

Most people need around five to eight pairs for a full period if they wash every other day. We worked this out from WUKA’s wear-time guidance (4-6 hours per pair on heavy days, up to 12 hours on light days, plus a pair overnight):

Your period Pairs worn per day Pairs to own (washing every other day) Suggested mix
Light (light days only) 2 (day + night) 4-5 3 Medium + 1-2 Light thongs
Average (2 heavy days, then lighter) 3-4 on heavy days, 2 after 6-8 5-pack Heavy + 2-3 Medium
Heavy (heavy most days) 4 8-10 5-pack Heavy + 3 Super Heavy for nights

Tip: if you wash every day, you can halve the “pairs to own” column. Many people start with a few Heavy pairs, see how they feel for a cycle, then fill in their favourite style.

WUKA size guide in one minute

Stretch™ uses three multi-size bands, while Ultimate™ and Basics™ use standard UK dress sizes. Measure your hips if you are unsure:

  • Stretch™ Size 1 (XS-L): UK 6-12
  • Stretch™ Size 2 (L-3XL): UK 12-18
  • Stretch™ Size 3 (3XL-5XL): UK 18-24, in selected styles
  • Ultimate™ and Basics™: XXS (UK 4-6) up to 6XL (UK 24-26), depending on style

No tape measure? WUKA’s tip is to tie a belt or dressing gown cord around your hips, mark it, then measure it flat with a ruler. If you sit between two Stretch™ bands, the stretch means either will usually feel comfortable, and your first pair is covered by WUKA’s 40-day free trial anyway.

How to save on your first WUKA order

Which WUKA period pants FAQ

What is the difference between WUKA Stretch and Ultimate?

Stretch™ is seamless and multi-size, so one pair fits across several sizes; Ultimate™ is made with soft TENCEL™ Modal in standard dress sizes. Stretch™ costs less (from £14.99), Ultimate™ feels more luxurious (from £22.99).

Which WUKA pants are best for heavy periods?

Super Heavy, in Stretch™ (£21.99) or Ultimate™ (£25.99). Each pair holds up to 60ml, about 12 tampons’ worth, which makes it ideal for nights and your heaviest days.

Which WUKA pants are best for sleeping?

A Super Heavy Midi Brief or High Waist, or Boxer Shorts if you like more coverage and a looser fit. WUKA also sells sleep sets of Stretch™ Heavy and Super Heavy pants.

Are WUKA Basics being discontinued?

WUKA has not said so, but Basics™ was only available in a few sizes when we checked, with the 7 Full Switch Set heavily reduced. If you love organic cotton and your size is there, it is a great time to buy.

Which WUKA period pants should I buy first?

Start with two or three Stretch™ Seamless Heavy pairs, add a Super Heavy pair for nights, then fill in your favourite style once you know how they feel.

Should I size up in WUKA?

For Stretch™, choose the band that covers your usual UK size; the fabric flexes. For Ultimate™ and Basics™, go by your hip measurement on WUKA’s size guide.

The bottom line

If you only buy one thing, make it a few pairs of WUKA Stretch™ Seamless Heavy: comfortable, multi-size and great value. Upgrade to Ultimate™ for the softest feel, grab Basics™ while the bargain sizes last, and keep one or two Super Heavy pairs for nights. With the 40-day trial on your first pair, there is very little to lose.
